Charcuterie Boards are all the rage right now! Charcuterie – hard to spell and even harder to say – is a term for prepared meats, however, charcuterie boards are typically filled with an assortment of goodies. It’s not uncommon for charcuterie boards to take up a full table at an event. However, the best part about charcuterie boards isn’t eating them, but creating them!
Check out our guide below for creating your own personal charcuterie board, right at home. Adjust the sizes and ingredients to suit just you, or you and the other members of your household!
Select a Board
Typically a charcuterie board is a wooden plank, but if you don’t have one – and don’t want to buy one – there are a ton of other options. Try using a cutting board, a serving tray, or even your favorite plate!
Choose Your Favorite Foods
When it comes to selecting the food for your board tradition is a selection of cured meats, cheeses, and sweet jams or fruits. However, it’s your board! Choose your favorite items and go to town. (If you want, make a dessert board!)
These are some of our favorite items for a charcuterie board:
- Cured meats: pepperoni, salami, and sliced ham/chicken/turkey
- Fruit: berries, tangerines, and apple slices
- Nuts: anything that doesn’t need to be peeled or cracked
- Carbs: crackers, pieces of a baguette, or pretzels go great with a soft cheese or fruit spread
- Dessert items: mini cookies and pieces of chocolate or candy
Arranging a charcuterie board is arguably the most fun part! The best way to make your charcuterie board beautiful is to look up inspiration online and try your best to recreate what you like. If your board is for more than just you to enjoy then throw on a pair of food-safe gloves before rearranging your board. Have fun, look at the assortment of colors in front of you, and play around until you’ve created something you love.
Don’t forget to snap a photo of your hard work. (If you do, tag us on Instagram, @friedmanproductions, we would love to see your boards!)
At the end of the day, arranging your food in an aesthetically pleasing way is a common practice. Each time you go to a restaurant your food is in place in such a way that it looks amazing.
Recreating beautiful plates at home is a fun activity and a charcuterie board (with its variety of toppings) offers a unique challenge!
