5 Tips to Improve Engagement at Your Virtual Event

Welcome to the virtual world! A place we have all visited, but now, due to travel

restrictions and limitations on in-person interactions, we all must get comfy and reside in.

Let’s be serious, nothing beats attending an actual physical event but you can achieve a similar experience with your online event, ONLY if you do it right.

Keeping an audience engaged at a physical event is hard but in the virtual world, it has become even harder. Even with amazing content, we now have to compete with so many distractions.

Here are some ideas to keep your audience more engaged at your next event:

HAVE EXCITING CONTENT

Virtual attendees have a shorter attention span so using PowerPoint slides will not be enough for your attendees. If you go the route of using PowerPoint make sure the slides are colorful and bold. Some other ideas are to use some audio and video graphics to keep your audience engaged.

USE INTERACTIVE FEATURES

Getting to know your virtual event audience can be tough but there are ways around it.

You can use interactive features like polls, Q&A sessions, chats, and breakout sessions.

You could also have a moderator manage the conversations in the chat while the speaker is making a presentation. Answering the attendee questions will help with discussion and keep your audience more engaged.

GET THE RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE VIRTUAL EVENTS

If you are hosting a virtual event for the first time, make sure you have the right tools to make the event a success. Find the best platform for your event. Make sure the platform you are using has interactive options to allow your attendees to chat.

Some things to consider when choosing the right platform for your event. Can you record the sessions? How can you send follow up materials, etc.

USE A PASSIONATE PRESENTER

This is so important as your audience can close their laptops and move onto something else. If you want them to stay the whole time you need a passionate speaker. Having a passionate speaker is a must as they can influence your audience for your benefit.

PROMOTE ENGAGEMENT BEFORE AND AFTER THE EVENT

It is important to build buzz before your virtual event.  You can prepare your audience using social media and websites to give sneak peeks and teasers before the event.

Talk about the value your event will bring for maximum attendance. Creating a social media page for the event is also important to create buzz. This way your audience knows what to expect and where to find the info.

During events promote networking and discussions with attendees. Encourage people to share post-event and tell their friends.
